Red skies over Africa

Voy Kay 22 Apr 2020

For some reason, this painting was mixed up with another one and all comments got lost during converting. That's the reason I am posting this one again here. It was originally painted on 18th of March 2020,

My study is occupied by the missus because she is obligated to work from home due to Corona, and therefor I cannot use it to paint anything 'Bob Ross related' since we have no computer in other areas. So faster then foreseen, I painted another African based scenery with a giant tree. Now, it was my intention to post a rhinoceros in there but WOW .... HUGE protest from my family not to do that since it would spoil that magnificent sky and tree they told me. Okay, so ... what else could I do but to not paint an animal in there? Is it a shame or not? Doesn't matter, there will be more opportunities for me to post silhoutte animals in African scenery, no worries.
Canvas used was a cheap budget one (16"x20"), prepared with yellow acrylic and a thin layer of liquid clear. In fact everything was fairly easy to do in this painting, I even tried some soft color blending in the soil and it worked out I think. The tree was a though one since I got very fatigued with holding my hand upwards for too long by using the scriptliner excessively. No leaves this time, I wanted the sky to shine in this painting as much as possible in the background.
ENJOY and please, read some articles!

These were the initial comments for this painting before the convertion mix-up:

Sunnylady
I think this is great tree to hang on the wall and use it as idea of genealogy tree and place photos of family around.
Really nice tree! I think nothing esle is needed here as well as composition is about the tree and animals on the ground would destroy composition.
May be some African birds on the tree as it has so many magnificent branches... like hornbills.

Or may be swings from the lower branches and romantic scene or quite opposite and someone lonely is enjoying the sunset.

Dear Sunnylady, I opted that bird idea as well yet again, my family wasn't thrilled with the idea. I will leave it as it is I think, I can always redo it in the future and then put some animals in.
Funny you mentioned that swing because I have an idea already in mind of a sea scenery with some palmtrees and a swing in one of them! Sixth sence stuff!

Oh, and about the genealogy tree …. good idea but for us …. we banned our families since over 8 years now and so for us, they are non-existant anymore. No further details on this but if you think I am a nice person (WE really are!!), then our families are the total opposite of that and that's why we burned all bridges there and even moved to another province! Since 8 years …. we live IN HEAVEN!!!!!
No worries, let's paint on!

I really like this one. It has a real warm african feel. I think that the rhino would not spoil it at all.

Another great window to Africa, bringing a nice warmth. Love the feeling of connection to earth, even if the sky is taking most of the painting.

And a very rich question you bring right there, Voy: who should decide what the painter paints? And more importantly, why? :) I'd say, go for what your heart is telling you.

Dear LJM, so glad you like this one. It is part of a series that I like to call 'Red skies over Africa' and I intend to make at least five of those (this is my fourth!).
I intend to do this one again with a more wiggled tree and one or more animals!!

Dear Romain, between us, also that earth part is one of my favourites of this painting. I intend to amplify this even more with my second attempt. Yes, you read correctly, I will redo this very soon AND adding with what I intended to put there in the first place. A wonderful rhino and perhaps some birds.

Great advice form all my community friends here!!!

'Red skies over elephant' and 'Red skies over Africa' got mixed together (photos, comments, titles) during conversion. Editing them was impossible, so I elected to post them again!
